NOYO App Launched to Tackle Street Harassment

Thursday, January 3, 2019 - 10:30

Barking & Dagenham Council are trying to make B&D a better, safer place for women and girls. And we would like to tell you about one new development in our borough which aims to create safer streets for women – the launch of a new app, NOYO.

NOYO – which stands for Not On Your Own – is an app where users can anonymously report incidents of street harassment (such as verbal threats, stalking or indecent exposure) and these reports are mapped and visible to other users of the app, alerting them. It will also help them to understand the scale of the problem locally, gathering evidence needed to tackle street harassment.

They know that street harassment is a real problem. Research shows that, nationally, 64% of women have experienced unwanted sexual harassment in public places. They want to send a clear message to everyone that harassment of this kind is not acceptable in B&D.

Please download and use the app, share with your friends, family, colleagues, and online networks (please use #NotOnYourOwn and tag @lbbdcouncil).
